There are a lot of tools out there that will help any webdesigner or developer.

I use the following online tools on a regular basis.

I found this amazing tip how to easily reduce the file size of a PNG image using Photoshop. It involves using the 'Posterize' filter before using 'save for web'. In the example he was able to compress a transparent PNG file with 50%!

At work we struggle with sharing large files. The only way we can exchange anything easily is by using email. Besides that we have a hard time playing back video content. We still run XP and that only allows the playback of some .WMV (stoneage) encoding.

The following sites really help me convert and share files between colleges and external parties.

  • Wetransfer Superb for sharing large files between multiple persons.
  • Keepvid Great for downloading YouTube content (YouTube is disabled, company policy).
  • Mediaconverter Convert any type of movies, both offline or online, to a designated encoding format.
